James Edward Evans, Sr., 86, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015.

He was born on August 24, 1928 to the late Isaac Leonard ''Lynn'' and Senora ''Nora'' Henderson Evans. James served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid fisherman, loved to play pool and ride his bike.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Sewell Evans; his sons, James ''Jimmy'' E. Evans, Jr. and his wife, Sue of Littleton, Barry S. Evans and his wife, Kelly of Roanoke Rapids; his grandchildren, Kristy Griffin, Michael Evans, Scott Barefoot, Valerie Turnage, Elizabeth Evans, Matthew Evans; his great grandchildren, Bland Turnage, Carson Griffin, Graci Barefoot, and Will Barefoot.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
